The harmonized book of national languages
As part of the implementation of ERDELAP activities, a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional team made up of teachers and specialists in national languages and cultures, members of Cameroonian language academies, computer scientists and various stakeholders has been working, since 2019, on the development of a model manual for teaching Cameroonian languages in a multilingual context: The harmonized book of national languages.
Today, it has to its credit a first series of specimen textbooks for 4ème and Form 3, known as first-generation textbooks, produced in 11 Cameroonian languages. These include textbooks in Basàa, Beti, Fulfulde, Ghomala’, Lamnso’, Mboo, Medumba, Mekaa, Ngiemboon, Shupamem and Yémba languages. These textbooks are accompanied by four guidance manuals. They are Modèle standard and Standard Model, which are intended for French-speaking and English-speaking authors respectively for the development of specific language textbooks, and Guide de l’enseignant and Teacher’s Guide, which are intended for French-speaking and English-speaking teachers respectively.
A second generation of manuals of “The harmonized book of national languages” model is being produced in a set of other Cameroonian languages including Aghem, Arabic choa, Bafut, Bulu, Duala, Fe’éfe’é, Gbaya, Karang, Kom, Limbum, Masana, Mbum and Tupuri.
